Apex Forgeworks LLC ("we", "us", or "our") built the PlateTally application ("the App") as a free application. This Privacy Policy explains how PlateTally handles information when you use it. In short: PlateTally has no accounts and no servers of our own, and your food diary stays on your device.
PlateTally is designed to be private by default. The App stores all of your data — including your food diary, custom foods, recipes, goals, water intake, and weight log — entirely on your device using local storage. We do not operate accounts or backend servers, and we do not collect, transmit, or store your personal data on our own systems.
We do not require you to create an account, and we do not collect personally identifiable information such as your name, email address, or location.
The following data is stored locally on your device:
You can export this data to a backup file, restore it, or erase all of it at any time from the App's Settings screen.
When you search for a food or scan a barcode, the search term or barcode number is sent to third-party nutrition databases so the App can return matching results:
These requests contain only your search text or a scanned barcode; they are not tied to an account and do not include your identity or your diary. These services are operated by third parties and have their own privacy practices. If you never search or scan, the App works offline against its built-in basics database.
With your permission, PlateTally uses the camera to scan food barcodes and to read nutrition labels. Nutrition-label text recognition is performed on your device, and camera images are not uploaded to us or stored after processing.
PlateTally offers an optional integration with Apple Health (iOS) and Health Connect (Android). When you enable it and grant permission, the App can write your logged calories, macros, water, and weight to your device's health store, and can read your latest weight back into PlateTally. This exchange happens on your device between apps; it is controlled by your system health-permission settings and can be turned off at any time. This integration is off by default.
If you enable meal reminders, PlateTally schedules local notifications on your device. These reminders are generated on-device and do not involve any data collection or transmission.
PlateTally does not integrate with any advertising, analytics, or tracking services. Aside from the food-database lookups and optional health integration described above, we do not share your data with third parties, because we do not collect it.
PlateTally does not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13. Since no personal data is collected by us from any user, this App is safe for general audiences.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
